A prodigy who first picked up the guitar at the age of six, he has devoted more than five decades to his craft. His rare command of multiple instruments — guitar, contrabass, piano, and voice — is matched by an extraordinary gift for improvisation and a profound emotional depth that gives every performance lasting resonance.
Born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and raised between the coastal city and Buenos Aires, Hermida carries the dual pulse of the sea and the capital in his playing. With deep Spanish roots, he channels the passion, elegance, and intensity of his heritage into a singular artistic voice. Early recognition from Argentine legends Charly García and Fito Páez set him on a path that has taken him to the world’s most distinguished stages.
For more than two decades he has made New York his artistic home. Appearances at exclusive venues such as the Meadow Club of Southampton reflect the quiet trust placed in him by discerning audiences. He has performed at the White House, Lincoln Center, Blue Note, the Royal Theatre in Monte Carlo for Princess Caroline of Monaco, Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, Teatro Maipo in Buenos Aires, B.B. King Blues Club, and James Knight’s Theatre in Miami.
Extensive international touring has further shaped his artistry. Years spent performing across Greece, Spain, France, Italy, and beyond allowed him to absorb living traditions — Mediterranean melodies, Andalusian fire, Parisian refinement, and the rhythmic soul of the wider world — and fold them into his own language. Throughout his career he has shared the stage with The Gipsy Kings, toured with tap legend Savion Glover, and collaborated with jazz luminaries including Jack DeJohnette, Richard Bona, and John McLaughlin, as well as Latin icons Leo Dan, Piero, and José Luis Rodríguez “El Puma.”
As a composer and producer, Hermida has created acclaimed original works and productions, among them Ultra Tango, the Edith Piaf Tribute, and Fire & Passion: The Music of Barbra Streisand. His repertoire masterfully reinterprets the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt, the works of Astor Piazzolla and Antônio Carlos Jobim, and a rich array of classical, Latin, and Mediterranean traditions.
A classically trained Master of Music, Gabriel Hermida continues to move discerning audiences with performances of technical mastery and profound soul. He is currently completing a solo jazz album that fuses the timeless essence of tango and flamenco with the language of modern jazz.
